Ding A-Ling A-Ling~The Ling Ding had Zing!
The 2012 98 Real Estate Group Ling Ding fishing tournament was another success. There were 33 teams from all around that competed over the three week period. Fishing was a little slow this year, but a number of nice fish were weighed in at the Mexico Beach weigh station. Captain Matt Terry and his crew aboard The Dirty Oar caught this 41.34 pound cobia to win the competition in week one. After two more weeks of fishing Captain Terry and The Dirty Oar team was the overall winner with a prize of $2,500. Captain John Wiley won first place and $1,000 in the Spanish mackerel division with a fish just over 3 pounds. Mexico Beach Marina hosted the final weigh in party with a BBQ dinner and awards ceremony. Everyone is looking forward to the Red Snapper season which is just around the corner. Congratulations to everyone who competed in this year’s tournament and a special thank you to 98 Real Estate for hosting the event.

Fishing Report
Spanish mackerel are here and are being caught all around the Gulf. They are especially strong at Hurricane Cut, in front of the El Governor Motel and near the WindMark docks. Cobias are here as well, with several being caught at Crooked Island, the buoy line and the lumber ship. Sheephead seem to be gathering around the buoys and pompano are being caught in the surf with sand fleas. Red Snapper season opens June 1st and Gag Grouper opens July 1st.
Don't forget to grab your fishing rods and tackle box and take advantage of the three (3) remaining license free fishing days scheduled for this summer. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spread out the opportunities this year so more people will be able to head for their favorite lakes and rivers or saltwater destinations on designated days. You won’t need a recreational fishing license on the special days listed below.
Florida residents and nonresidents, mark these Saturdays on your calendar for 2012:
June 2nd- Saltwater

Our Beaches
We love our pets and we want everyone to have a great time on our beaches. Every day we work very hard to keep the beaches clean and safe for everyone. We have some restrictions that we would like to remind everyone about. No animals are allowed on the beach between the Canal and the east side of Mexico Beach (towards Toucan's). We do welcome pets on the west side of the Canal (towards Tyndall AFB) and they are welcomed on St. Joe Beach. We also have restrictions of glass on the beach. It can easily break and hurt someone, and we don't want that. When you come to the beach, please observe these restrictions so everyone can have a wonderful time. Thank you!
